I'LL BE HAPPY & HEALTHY WHEN...

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another.  Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are.  After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.  We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.  We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we are able to go on a nice vacation or when we retire...

The truth is there's no better time to be happy than right now.  If not now, when?  Your life will always be filled with challenges.  It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.  Happiness is the way.  So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with... and remember that time waits for no one.  So, stop waiting...

Until your car or home is paid off.

Until you get a new care or home.

Until your kids leave the house.

Until you go back to school.

Until you finish school.

Until you lose 10lbs.

Until you gain 10lbs.

Until you get married.

Until you get a divorce.

Until you have kids.

Until you retire.

Until spring.

Until summer

Until autumn

Until winter

Until you die.

There is no better time than right now to be happy.  Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Some time in our life we will be sick.  It is no fun nursing ill health for one day let alone a lifetime.  This month our pages are from Mervyn Bryan whose ill health has led him on a life's search for answers as to why diet so impacts health.  The following pages are his thoughts.  You may want to do some research yourself to see if his findings might help you too.  Here is his story.

"As a child I suffered badly with asthma and my parents followed our family practitioners guidance and purchased none wool bedding with a special mattress and pillow for me. However, looking back at my childhood I have noticed a strange thing. While at home, eating a diet based on shop produce, my health was low. But when I went on holiday to my mother’s parents, it improved greatly. What was the difference? Only our diet! My grandfather kept chickens and grew all his own vegetables in his own organically fertilised garden. Each morning my grandmother would tell us what we were going to have for food that day and we would go to the garden then harvest and prepare it that morning; only hours before consuming it. Within a few short days my health improved which persisted for a number of weeks after returning home. Hence my interest and study in this form of medicine."

The Missing Link For A Healthy Life

The complete holistic approach to health and happiness

For a person to feel comfortable, energetic and healthy we need to create harmony by keeping the body in total balance. This balance will affect us Physically, Mentally, Emotionally and Spiritually.

In the orthodox medical circles we are starting to hear about the holistic approach to health. By which is generally meant an acceptance that diet and life style plays a part in our overall Physical, Mental and Emotional health. However, you will note that in this book we have included the Spiritual element of life.

As to whether or not you believe in God the Creator; everybody has a Spiritual element to their lives. We all view some things as right and some things as wrong. Our moral understanding depends on a number of things; our cultural background, religious or non religious background and growth of understanding in spiritual and religious things.

The Holy Bible is the religious book accepted in part by the majority of religious people in the world. The Muslims, Christians and Jews accept the Old Testament. The Christians also accept the New Testament. Although the Bible is a conglomerate of interesting moral training stories, an insight into the nature of the Saviour of this world. It also contains instruction on how to lead our every aspect of life. There is a reason for this.

When we purchase a new machine, a telephone, mp3, CD, cassette player or radio, mp4, DVD, video cassette player, television, computer, new computer software, or a major machine like a motor vehicle, we will have received with it an instruction manual. The other day I obtained a continuous ink supply system for my computer printer and I set it up as I’d seen it done in the shop. However, I didn’t read the manual and as a consequence I left out an important part, the air breathing attachments for each ink reservoir. As a result it didn’t work properly and I accepted that it was my fault for not reading the instructions first.

Well, our body is the most intricate machine available. Each and every part within it is affected to a lesser or greater degree by all the other parts within it. This is called synergism. So why is it we seem to think we can treat it in any way we want to and put into it anything we like? It is after all adapted to certain standards and most religious people believe created to a specific design by a designing creative genius called God. So it is only logical to expect that the manufacturer / creator of this marvellous machine would give us a design manual. The following quotes from the Bible demonstrate firstly that God does care about all aspects of our life; Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual; then secondly we find within its pages instructions concerning how we should treat our body and fuel it.

Unacknowledged Poisons?

There are many other poisons in our society today about which we hear very little. The evils of smoking, alcohol and hard drugs are well documented. But what of the regular use of caffeine, and then the deadly poison of granulated sugar. But of even more importance is the subject of food.

In researching diet I stumbled upon an interesting scientific fact. The lists which indicated the glucamic indexes (the speed with which the body absorbs sugar from the food), and those which demonstrated the pH productivity (the way that certain foods create an acid or alkaline state in the body) were almost identical, and furthermore the good foods of these listings resembled the good foods we are advised to use from the Biblical records. As a Christian I am certain that there is a reason for the fact that science when understood correctly backs up the Biblical advice. From these listings we have been able to produce a GIpH listing of foods and their strengths and weaknesses. Further study has revealed the fact that the vegetables and fruits that are so readily available also have health giving benefits to the body. Our research also revealed the fact that greater benefits can be obtained from our food by juicing them, as by so doing we increase the quantity of food ingested thus increasing the amount of nutritional intake.

Finally, remember that our God being "LOVE" wants what is best for us and has made the information available for all who seek. Read on!

HEALTH

NEWSTART UK

The name NEWSTART UK is an acronym for:-

Nutrition: eat 9 portions of fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, and seeds per day. Try to stay away from white sugar, white flour, and white grease.

Exercise: you must exercise every day! Your heart will love you for it. A brisk walk is wonderful for clearing up a foggy brain.

Water: your body is 80% water. Every day you lose water by breathing, sweating, and urine. It must be replaced to keep the body functioning properly. Sodas, energy drinks, fruit drinks, etc will not do what pure water does for the body. Water also flushes fat and toxins from the body and is responsible for keeping us younger looking. When a plum looses most of its water, it becomes a prune.

Sunlight: we need to be out in the sunlight everyday, even when it is cloudy because the sun will turn the cholesterol that is in our body to vitamin D.

Temperate balance: this simply means we should not over do anything. Don’t eat too much, don’t work too much, and get enough rest.

Air: fresh air in our homes while we sleep and fresh morning air when we walk helps our blood move freely as it transports oxygen to the organs.

Rest: the best rest to be had is found everyday between 10pm and 2am There are certain repairs that the body makes while we sleep during the resting cycle. Always go to bed on time.

Trusting relationships: we all have troubles in our lives. It’s best not to leave them too long before we sort them out, as if left they can get worse. They come in three forms, our motivating force, us and others.

The Promise of Divine Health

 God is our Healer

Exodus 15:26 “ I am the Lord, your Healer”

Psalm 103:3  “ Who healeth all your Diseases”

John 10:10  “ I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”

God’s Word supplies a treasure of Healing Principles

Psalm 107:20 “He sent His Word and Healed me”

Proverbs 4:22 “For they are life unto those who find them, and Health to all their flesh”

The Health Counsels of the Holy Scriptures

Exodus 15:26  “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in thy sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and wilt keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which the Egyptians have: for I am the Lord that healeth thee”

From the work of archaeologists and the study of Egyptian mummies science has discovered that the diseases of the Egyptians were very similar to those we find in modern Western Society today.

Heart Disease and  Atherosclerosis, Tuberculosis, Cirrhosis of the Liver, Gallstones, Kidney Stones, Small Pox, Malaria, Tetanus, Gout, Arthritis,  Rheumatism  and  Osteoporosis, Pneumonia  and  Pleurisy, Diabetes, Diarrhoea  and  Constipation, Iron Deficiency and other forms of Anaemia, Dental Decay, Goitre and Headaches.

Exodus 23: 25 “ So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you”

Deuteronomy 7:15 “ And the Lord will take away from you every sickness and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known”

So much for the promises, but why is it that so many sincere believers in God suffer with ill health. Well as with everything in life, there are conditions to these promises. Simply that in the first place we must adhere to the instructions given for the treatment of this intricate machine called a body. There are Body Health Laws, Laws of the Mind, Laws of Emotions, Laws for Environmental Health and Laws of Prosperity. For instance, the first law of caring for a car is to put the right fuel and lubricating fluid in it. The wrong type will end up with the car being damaged.

One of the most wonderful laws God placed in nature is that we always reap more than we sow. Put into the ground one seed, and we can yield hundreds of seeds, dependant on the plant.

Another law is that of Cause and Effect, what goes around, comes around, or as you make your bed, so you must lie down in it. In other words, what we do or don’t do will affect our lives in one way or another.

Deuteronomy 5:33  “Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may Live and that it may be Well with you, and that ye may Prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess”

Deuteronomy 33:25“ Your Strength will be equal your days”

So we see that the purpose of the Bible laws is to enable us to lead a comfortable, useful and healthy life. So why it is that believers and non believers alike get sick?

Ill health is brought about by a number of factors. There are inherited weaknesses and then there are ill health problems brought about by accidents.  However over 80% of the ill health problems that people suffer with are caused by lifestyle and diet. If we don’t know of these laws, then the following texts apply to us.

Hosea 4:6“My people are lost for a lack of knowledge”

Psalm 107: 17 “Some were sick through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction”

Sin is in fact the lack of keeping the laws of God, either through ignorance or by wilful disobedience.

Finally in the first part of this article we see that the Bible says that God’s Word (The Bible) supplies a treasure of Healing Principles.

Psalm 107:20 “He sent His Word and Healed me”

Proverbs 4:22 “For they are life unto those who find them, and Health to all their flesh”

In the next part of this article we will concentrate on the actual laws that the Bible gives for our diet.

At the beginning God gave mankind a diet of Nuts, grains & Fruit Genesis 1:29. After mankind caused a separation of their selves from God, what the Bible calls sin. God instructed people to add to their diet vegetables Genesis 2:17, 18. This vegetarian diet is also proven scientifically to be completely fulfilling as a source of nutrition for the human body.

After the devastating time of the flood spoken of in Genesis 7, God allowed mankind to eat the flesh of certain types of animal. In verse 2 we see that God instructed Noah to take a pair male and female of each kind of animal but he was to take 7 of each of the clean animals. The clean animals being those God permitted mankind to eat. In Genesis 9 and Leviticus 4 we are told that the animals God has permitted mankind to eat are:-

Cow                 Deer              Goat                Sheep

Chicken                   Pheasant                     Turkey

Fish with scales and fins.

No other type of animal or fish is supposed to be eaten by mankind.

There are also conditions that make these types of animals clean to eat.

Type of death

Animals that are to be eaten are not to be sick or die of its own causes, whether due to sickness or natural ageing. The animal is to be killed as follows, hung up by its hind legs, throat veins cut to allow the heart to beat out the blood. Only the flesh from the main part of the body was to be used.

Concerning Blood

Animals to be consumed must not contain blood. After death the main part of the animal body was to be skinned and the flesh cut into strips about 1 cm thick, soaked in salt water to draw out the blood, which resulted in a dirty white tasteless substance which had to be flavoured with herbs and spices.

 Concerning animal fat,

The fat in the meat to be eaten was to be cut off and the legs and wings were not to be eaten due to their fat and blood content.

Leviticus 7:22-27, Leviticus 11, Leviticus 17:12, Genesis 9 and historic sources

For those of us living under Western Society law, this can cause major problems, because this type of animal killing and preparation is deemed unlawful.

Another problem concerns the contaminants that are added to animals through their food supply. Many are fed hormones and even prepared food containing animal protein. Before death they are often injected with a cocktail of chemicals designed to help retention of body fluids, including the blood so as to increase the monetary value in weight of the meat.

One of the most often used meats today is factory farmed chickens which are fed hormones to promote growth of their breast meat. This hormone is still in the chicken flesh when we eat it, and some people find that it promotes unnatural breast growth in humans too. Even in men. The feed enables the farmers to cut the normal growth rate of chicken pullets to 42 days, a third of a chicken's normal growth age. Up to a third of chicken pullets can die as a result of this feeding, as their leg bone growth cannot keep up with the meat growth and the bones breaks under the strain. As the food the chicken eats is designed to increase the bird’s appetite and its thirst, the bird dies within hours from thirst. So we see that this form of farming of chickens can make this form of meat Biblically unclean to eat. Twice over, once because of the food it has eaten and once because of its death.

Another thought for Christians and none Christians alike, all people in fact who have a love for nature is this. Supporting this cruel type of factory farming by purchasing animals so farmed is against God's law of love and care for nature that we are supposed to promote.

MEN'S PAGE

In our men's page today we are talking about Trusting Relationships. The Bible tells us that the husband is the Priest of the family. To this end, having an understanding of Trusting Relationships is of importance. This article is the full version of the Trusting Relationships article of the NEWSTART UK program as found in "Natures Healthy Lifestyle".

The trust element deals with the relationship issues. We all need to be at ease with ourselves in our environment. Every human being has relationship issues in three areas. We can call this the relationship triangle; we have a relationship with ourselves, with others (individuals and social groups) and with a Motivating Force.

Motivating

Force

                                                    Me                             Others

Motivating Force

Let’s deal with the last first, as this will be too many people a strange concept. But if we think about this in broad terms, the notion of a Motivating Force covers many forms. For religious people it could be a god. But in today’s secular society, with many people claiming to be atheists or agnostics, this concept of a Motivating Force can be filled by a person or pop star, someone that a person feels adoration toward, it could be a hobby or an organisation like a political party, or even a sports team. How many of us have watched the political meetings where the faithful gather or heard the football fans singing the praises for their team. Even the use of a drug can become this motivating force. So in that sense everybody has a need for and a Motivating Force. Recognising this helps the individual to adjust to their environment and to recognise the importance that a motivating force actually has on their life. If the motivating force has too great an input on a person’s life, they could become poverty stricken and their family and self thus suffer. All their wages spent on drugs, alcohol, and football paraphernalia etc. A balance is required in this area as in all other areas of life.

 Others

No matter how we may try to protect ourselves, we all have to deal with others. This is one of the facts of life. How we deal with others, how we allow others to pressure us which includes peer pressures, we are dealing with others on an ongoing basis. If we have been hurt by someone, a hurt that could be physical, mental or social in nature; we will often try to protect ourselves by keeping our distance from the person that inflicted that hurt. A physical hurt often does not last as long as a mental hurt. A bruise or broken bone will heal. However, if a mental scar is not dealt with, it can last for a long time. All hurts place a pressure on our health. If we are in severe pain, we can not operate at the maximum of our capacity.

 Ourselves

We are all born with inherited traits, strengths and weaknesses. For through our genes, the strengths and weaknesses that individuals develop during their adolescence are passed onto our children, down to three or four generations. So we are not just affecting ourselves when we overindulge or treat our body and mind in a way that is detrimental. Also when we develop our mental, social and physical strengths we are placing our offspring in a good position to start with. However, although we may be born with certain strengths and weaknesses, we also have the personal ability at any time in our lives to further develop our strengths and to overcome inherited or developed weaknesses. Many times when dealing with our weaknesses we will need the help of others, especially those that we trust as the weakness itself can be deeply ingrained in us.

To lead a well balanced life we need to honestly recognise our strengths and weaknesses and then develop a method of dealing with them.

LIFESTYLE

A parachute, like the mind works best when it is open.”

                                                 Einstein

In 1995 - 355,000 people died in the U.S. as a direct result of being prescribed drugs. In the United Kingdom we find (Daily Mail 29.10.96) “many accidents which kill people over 65 may be linked to the side effects of prescribed medication.” The United Nations estimates that one half of the world’s population suffers from malnutrition and 700-900 million people are seriously malnourished. 42,000 children die each day from malnutrition. That comes to 15 million per year or 30% of all the world’s deaths per year.

Doctor - Sir William Onica said “90% of all conditions outside of,   (1)  acute infection,  (2)  contagious diseases,  and (3)  injuries, - ARE DIRECTLY TRACEABLE TO OUR DIET”. He then went on to point out that 70% of the British Isles is constipated and of that 70% - 70% of them will suffer because of their constipation.

Facts About Food.

Our body Needs 91 known nutrients per day, 60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 essential amino acids and 3 fatty acids, along with numerous enzymes which are only available in living vegetable and fruit foods. In most foods the enzymes are dead within 72 hours of harvesting. It usually takes in advance of 72 hours for food to reach the grocer, yet alone be prepared for our tables.

Since 1948 Farmers have been putting just 3 minerals in the ground as a fertilizer, this is all the minerals they need to get high quantities of fruits, vegetables and grains, remember our bodies need’s over 60 minerals per day, it takes 5 to 7 years to deplete soil of it’s mineral count, we humans have been using modern farming methods for 50 years now so you can quit safely say the food grown in this soil lacks the vitality we humans require.  Or put it another way put £3 in your bank each day but take out £60 each day and see what happens?

Last year in the UK 170,000 people were killed by Coronary Heart Disease; one in four women suffer with heart disease. What we need to have in our food is the mineral Copper which keeps muscle tissue, heart tissue and the arteries naturally elastic and flexible, it also helps stop our skin from sagging. The mineral Selenium protects the heart from disease and also eats up unwanted free radicals. Free radicals are cells which cause the onset of aging quicker. Vitamin E works very well with Selenium.

Calcium helps the heart and muscles to function normally. However we need Phosphorus and Magnesium to help the absorption of Calcium plus vitamins D and C if we don’t have all these together then we are wasting our money. Magnesium will also relax our blood vessels, if you lack energy after a good night's sleep it could be due to a lack of this mineral. It has been found that black pepper the night before which stops the production of red blood cells which means you cannot get enough oxygen to the body organs quick enough (black pepper in high amounts has also been see to cause cancer). Manganese also is necessary for proper use of vitamin C and will lower cholesterol plus prevent cancer and heart decease. In the above we start to see the importance of Synergism within the body.

To tackle this shortage of nutrients in our food the UK government health authorities have been promoting the five a day, which has now increased to seven a day portions of vegetables and fruits that our body requires to obtain the necessary nutrients.

Another way of tackling these nutrient shortages would be to grow your own food, feeding the plants with organic fertiliser and eating it within hours of harvesting. Failing that nutrients can be obtained through the living supplementation of holistic ingredients such as Natural Mineral Supplements, Bee Pollen, Green Barley and cold stabilised Aloe Vera.
